The Wedding...

On June 25th, 2006 Ethan Sommer and I got married in the Severance Great Hall at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. The night before we held our rehersal dinner at Bucca di Beppo in Eden Prarie with our parents, grandparents and the bridal party. The bridal party was fairly small, and included my sister Taylor who was my Maid of Honor, my cousin Sarah who was my flower girl, Ethan's best friend Matt who was his Best Man, and both Ethan and my brothers, Aaron and Peter, who were Ushers and Chuppa holders. My good friend Yi Gu also participated in the wedding as the pianist during the ceremony.

The wedding itself was fairly short and preformed by a judge. The ceremony included a precession, introduction, explaination of the chuppa, story of how Ethan and I met, exchange of rings, lighting of the unity candle, exchange of vows, drinking of the wine and stomping on the wine glass. (You can see it in the ceremony video) . After the ceremony we had a recieving line so that Ethan and I would have the chance to thank everybody for coming. We had only 73 guests, but the recieving line still took a while. I can't imagine how people with 300+ person weddings survive such things!

Dinner was catored by Sodexho/Marriot and was a buffet with steak as the main course. It was very good, but I was so flustered with all the excitement of the day that I didn't eat nearly as much as I would have liked. At the dinner several toasts were made, including toasts by my father, my Aunt Kathleen, my sister, Matt, and Ethan's father. All the toasts were very nice and most of them were caught on video.

After dinner there was dancing. the DJ wasn't the best, but we still had a good time. Some of my friends made the mistake of requesting the Macarena. Oy! That went on forever! I had a bit of trouble keeping my dress out of the way, but I had a blast. We also did a bouquet toss and a garter toss. My friend Lauren caught the bouquet, breaking her dress in the process, and my very drunk friend Josh caught the garter, much to his confusion. (Both instances are on the second recpetion video). We also did a less-that-smooth cutting of the cake. The cake was really tastey but I only at a very small piece, since I was so nervous with everybody watching.

After the wedding Ethan and I got into our car and headed up to the Hotel Sofitel for the night. (the last video shows us getting into the car and driving off). The next morning a brunch was held at my parents house for out-of-town guests. It was very relaxed and gave us a chance to talk more to people we had only seen briefly the night before. At the bruch we also opened a few of our wedding gifts, including a few embarassing things from our friends.

Overall the whole wedding was great. The planning had been a hassle, especially since I was struggling to do during my last term at Carleton. (If you ever get married, don't do it two weeks after your college graduation!). I am so glad that it went smoothly and that so many people were there to help Ethan and I celebrate our union. We continue to be happily married and thank all of our friends and family for their support!
