Ice hockey has been a big part of my life for a long time. I joined my first team when I was 10 years old and have been skating ever since. I have devoted so much of my life to hockey it seemed only fitting to devote at least a part of my web site to it. Here you will find an account of all my seasons from 1993 through the present, beginning with the most recent season and moving further back in time season by season as well as my experience with coaching and the camps and clinics I have attended. I hope you enjoy this part of my site as much as I am enjoying making it.

We have decided to start this season much more strategically. We are going to roster fewer players so that lines/positions can be more consistent, and as a part of that I will be playing center between Marci and Adel, which I really look forward to. We have also started to look for another coach to help Aaron out, and have elected a Captain (me) and an Assistant Captain (Steph) to further add structure to the season. Hopefully these changes will pay off. For more information on how the Arrows are doing this season, please check out the WHAM site.

This was one of the Arrows roughest seasons to date. We finished below 500. We sorely missed our top scorer, Jill, who moved up to B1. We also had a very inconsistent line structure, and I kept being moved back and forth between forward (both wing and center) and defense. This was my first full season after having my kids, and it was great to be back on the ice! I also got to play center for a good number of games this year, largely due to the sad departure of one of our best wings, Laura, who decided to move up to B1. This season started without me on the ice, and it will end without me as well. I gave birth to my daughter 3 weeks into the season, and although I played in a few games after her birth, I found that it was too hard to balance hockey and life with a newborn, so I decided to play only when direly needed. The season was a fun one, and although we lost a few players this season to growing families, I think we had a strong team this year. We has some troubles getting enough girls on the ice for all the games, so there were a few times where the defense played the entire game! Due to getting pregnant at the end of the year, I could not participate in the State Tournament, however I did play in all regular season games. We ended the regular season 14-4-4, which put us in 4th place overall, but we did not place in state.

This season was wonderful. My teammates are really nice and there are many talented players. We ended the regular season 14-6, putting us in third place, very closely behind the Mystics and MCM Sports. At State we botched our first two games and ended up going 1-2, placing us 5th. It was somewhat of a disappointment, but we learned some lessons and will be coming back stronger next year. Pictures of the Arrows vs. Arctic Freeze are available here.

My last year at Carleton was a building year for WHAC. I was co-captains with Liz Stigler and we had no coach, so we did it all. We had lost a lot of good players to graduation and therefore had a very young team. We had a rocky season as far as wins and losses went, but the energy on the team was great and I had a blast playing. Images from the 2004 - 2005 season are available here.

2003 - 2004 was one of WHAC's strongest years during my time there. We had a lot of strong players, wonderful captains (Adele Hall and Lina Dores) a great goalie (Sarah Gronofsky), a coach (Matt Rand) and tons of enthusiasm. For me, personally, the greatest highlight was the achievement of my New Year's resolutions: to have the highest number of goals and points both on my team and in the league. I ended the season with 14 goals, placing me 3 goals ahead of both captains. The team placed second in WHAM standings with a 12-3-2 record, although due to scheduling conflicts we never played in the state tourney.

My second year with WHAC was quite enjoyable, since I had finally settled into live at Carleton. We gained a coach part way through the season, Matt Rand, a biology professor at Carleton. He was great to have! Captains this year were Kelly Kaihara and Adele Hall. A team picture can be found here, and a video from this season, including game footage and interviews, can be found here.

My first year playing with Carleton's club team took a lot of adjustment. We practiced about once and had on average 2 games each week, quite a change from high school 6-days-a-week hockey. But I still had a great deal of fun. This was the first year for WHAC in C2 (they had previously played C3) and the transition was rocky, but the team had a lot of strong skaters and always had fun.

My last year with the Hopkins Royals was a blast. I was co-captains with Megan Tricky and Tara O'Neill. Although I missed Kearns a lot, her graduation meant that I got to center the first line, which was a lot of fun. The low point of the season was when Tara suffered a tripple-concusion during a home game and had to be hospitalized for some time. She did, however, manage to recover before the end of the season and was back on the ice to finish it out with us. My last year with Hopkins was overall a wonderful experience and I will always miss the team and my time with them. The season highlight video can be found here.

For my junior year in high school the team got a whole new coaching staff, with Vin Palucci as the head coach and Ron Sellnow as his second in command. Emily Kearns, Julia Adams and I stayed together as a line, and became the team's scoring power house. We also got two very notable new players, Tami Trenter and Laura Stroessner. Both had played with the boys for years and were amazing players. With the new coach there were a lot of adjustments made, but overall there was great improvement in Royals Girls hockey. The season highlight video can be found here.
I have been interested in coaching hockey since high school, when, as a captain of my varsity team, I was able to get my first glimpse of the "behind the scenes" aspects of coaching. At Carleton I was given numerous opportunities to coach and teach hockey and ice skating. I taught both beginning an intermediate ice skating classes for Carleton's Physical Education department from 2003 through 2005. I also taught beginning and intermediate ice hockey in 2005. In both classes I taught students of varying skill levels to skate, stop, turn, crossover, stick-handle and shoot.
At Carleton I was also given the opportunity to coach Carleton's Women's Hockey club team (WHAC). Because the team was club, it had no official coaching staff, so as one of two captains, I took the role of coach. WHAC plays in the Women's Hockey Association of Minnesota's C division. WHAC generally has one or two seasoned players, but mostly consists of beginners. As the captain/coach it was my ob not only to teach new plays, but also to instruct on the basics of skating, stick-handling, and even goal-tending. It was a very enriching experience.
